Work gloves, eye protection for anyone who needs it, water fence pliers and T-post pullers will be provided. Once complete, volunteers are invited to stay for a BBQ. Thirty-two contemporary Oceti Sakowin artists created artworks for this exhibit. Seventeen additional Oceti Sakowin writers crafted poems or prose for the seventeen articles. Seventeen Oceti Sakowin and Northern Plains musicians created songs that are available online. Between April 29, 1868 and November 6, 1868, one hundred fifty-eight representatives of the Oceti Sakowin (Seven Council Fires) Confederacy signed the 1868 Fort Laramie Treaty. Retired geologist Steve Stresky will tell a story more than a billion years in the making as we enjoy a summer night on the mountain. You’ll be able to see deep into the Cloud Peak Wilderness and experience breathtaking views of the valley below from the new trail. The hike will afford sweeping views of the Bighorn highlands, Moncreiffe Ridge and Black Canyon. We’ll pass right by outcrops of the oldest marine formation in the region, and will discuss the type and origin of the formation. With a full view of Moncreiffe Ridge, we’ll also discuss a theory on the origin of the ridge related to the processes that created the mountain range. Meet at Red Grade Trails Base Trailhead.
