Another year of support

Wyolution works with a few different clients to provide technical support for custom applications that our clients had written for them by vendors that are no longer in business.  Given the applications where critical to their business, support was a requirement to ensure day-to-day operations continued.  In addition, Wyolution was able to take over and enhance these product for our clients with features they needed to keep pace with their expanding needs and business directions.

One of those companies is Climb Wyoming.  Through their CLIMB Wyoming programs, they train and place single mothers in higher paying jobs.

Wyolution works with Swift to offer new Social Hub

Wyolution, in conjunction with Swift Communications, recently launched a new Member’s Hub section of Swift’s 26 newspaper sites.  Along with a new homepage design, this represents an entirely new way for local readers to interact with one another, all centered around the content of the site.  In addition, members now have some of the abilities found on traditional social networking sites, like blogging, private messaging, and video and photo posts.

According to Abbey Smith, a Business Analyst for Swift’s Internet Ventures Group, “The Wyolution team always delivers great results for Swift Communications. Our latest project, which redesigned the homepage and added a section for user content for more than 20 news sites, is no exception. The custom-built comments database that Wyolution created provides the first link between social media and revenue for Swift Communications.”

As an example of one of the sites can be found at www.nrtoday.com.

Wyolution wins Fremont County website bid

From the Lander Journal, September 27th, 2009 (by staff writer Martin Reed):

Lander-based Wyolution LLC in August landed a contract to redesign and maintain Fremont County government’s Web site.

Commissioners approved the contract not to exceed $10,000 after receiving a recommendation from a county committee.

The group included information system support manager Joni Miller and her counterpart at the sheriff’s office, Jesse Lyles.

The committee had interviewed five companies concerning the county’s proposed Web site rebuild and provided unanimous support for Wyolution (our emphasis), according to a memo given to commissioners in August.

In a letter to the county, Wyolution partners Mark Thoney and Jared Kail stated they will work on Web design, imlementation, maintenance, training and support.

“Wyolution has been committed to the needs of Wyoming businesses and organizations since 2005, and we continue to grow a strong and vibrant customer base that includes municipal, county, and quasi-governmental organizations,” according to their letter.

Their proposal for the county’s Web site includes individual pages for each county department all linked by a single home page.

“Each department will be able to asign its own content editors that are responsible for keeping the department’s information fresh and up-to-date,” according to their proposal.

Commissioners supported the creation of a strong Web site for the county.  “I think it’s a good way of promoting what county government is,” chairman Doug Thompson said.

The count’s current Web site is located at www.fremontcountywy.org.

Did your “Send To -> Mail Recipient” option in Windows quit working with Thunderbird?

If so, then follow these steps to restore the functionality:

  1. Launch RegEdit (use at your own risk).
  2. Navigate to: \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Mozilla Thunderbird in your registry.
  3. Check the key DDLPath.  If it is empty, then proceed, if not empty, then STOP, you have a different problem.
  4. If DDLPath is empty, enter the path to the file “mozmapi32.dll” (most likely C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\mozmapi32.dll)

This should correct the problem.

Maintain an exact a copy of your files.

This is a great tool when used in conjunction with an external hard drive. It allows you to keep a very accessible copy of all your files on an external hard drive. No need for special backup software. No need to open archives or backups to find a file. Just navigate the 2nd drive to find your file.

NOTE: This tool does not version control or automatically create multiple copies of the file.

“This utility creates or maintains an exact duplicate of the original directory. ICE Mirror will compare the mirrored directory to the master directory and correct any disparities. ICE Mirror allows ultra fast mirroring because it performs incremental updates. In other words it only copies files that have changed. If only a few files have been updated, it performs very fast.

Also ICE Mirror allows making differential updates. The differential updates are very useful if you are use read-only media (CD-R, DVD-R, DVD+R, etc.). There are two steps in differential updates:

1. Comparison the master directory and the mirrored directory.
2. Copying all new files from the master directory to the secondary mirrored directory.

In other words it only copies files that have changed in the mirrored directory to the secondary mirrored directory.”

What is taking up all that room on your drive?

WinDirStat
WinDirStat
Wondering why you have so little room left, then download WinDirStat at windirstat.info. It is free, open-source, and easy to use.

WinDirStat represents each file on your drive as a colored rectangle. The size of the rectangle indicates the size of the file compared to the other files. Click on the big blocks of color to find files that are no longer needed and that may be taking up valuable space.

NOTE: Be sure you know what you are deleting before you remove something from your hard drive.

Wyolution helps launch C2, Classifieds Consolidation, for Swift Communications, Inc.

C2, Swift's New Classified System
C2, Swift's New Classified System

An entire new system was built, steering away from the traditional chronological list format of Craigslist and others, and designing an original system that gives more power and control to the user, while displaying more of the data visually. A very impressive feature is the gallery view, allowing users to see more images of listed items at once.

With C2, the listings within a given category are not merely listed; the user has the option to move between a list, a table and a gallery to view the information. In the gallery mode, only those listings containing images are loaded, and the images display in a photo matrix. As the user mouses over each photo, information is displayed in a floating window, such as ad description, price, and expiration date.
